MEGHAN GALLAGHER

Meghan Gallagher
Head of Kinder 

Meghan was born in Connecticut, USA and raised in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. She graduated from Boston University with a degree in Early Childhood Education and continued her studies with a Postgraduate degree in Education with a focus on developing scientific skills in the Early Years, from Leicester University in the UK. She also attended Harvard University´s Project Zero Classroom course in Boston, as well as, Making Thinking Visible and Differentiation online courses, amongst others. Meghan worked at two British International schools in Brazil before starting at International College.

 

Meghan loves to travel and during one of her trips she met her Uruguayan husband, Gastón, while on vacation in New York. They lived together in Sao Paulo and after a couple of years decided to come live to Uruguay, where together with another partner opened a restaurant, Cuatro Mares. They have been gifted with Diego who is 3 years old and also loves to cook with his dad. 

 

Meghan also loves playing volleyball, listening to music and watching films. During the weekends, she enjoys spending time together with Diego and Gáston, having fun playing at the different parks such as Jagüel and Plaza Mexico, eating feijoada or discovering new delicious local restaurants. During the summer, Punta del Este becomes a popular meeting point for their family members from around the world.

 

 

 

Caroline AylinigCaroline Ayling
Head of Primary

Caroline has always had a great passion for education. She has a Bachelor degree in Educational Sciences from the Catholic University of Argentina. She loves to read and put into practice what she continues to research on the area of ​​Neurosciences. 

 

Caroline enjoys to be with students, discovering their interests and helping them increase their autonomy; and planning together with teachers to develop their leadership and teaching-learning skills.

 

In her free time, she is always reading a book about education or history. She loves watching movies and even knows by heart the dialogues of her favourites!

 

Walking down the beach is a real pleasure for Caroline, as she has fond memories and precious moments from living for three years on these shores as a teenager.

 

 

 

FEDERICO OLASCUAGAFederico Olascuaga
Director de Secundaria


Federico Olascuaga Bachino is a History teacher who studied at the ‘Centro Regional de Profesores del Este’. From a young age, he became interested in History, reading and research. He defines himself as a constant learner, curious and restless. He did a Masters in ‘Gender, Society and Politics’ and has worked as a journalist, both in writing and on the radio. Federico is also an author, having published three books from 2012 to 2018.

He started teaching in 2005. His focus has always been to promote a different type of approach to History lessons, basing his teaching and learning methods in research. In his eyes, his students are the real teachers and it is his privilege to be an educator, accompanying them in their journey. In 2019 Federico became International College’s Secondary Coordinator.

Federico is married to María Victoria, who is also a teacher, and they have a daughter together, María Candelaria. In his spare time he enjoys reading and spending time with friends and family. Aside from reading and writing, his other hobbies include music, particularly playing percussion.



Belen SauerBelen Sauer

Executive Coordinator

 

Belen was born in Argentina but moved at an early age to Florida, USA. She completed her Secondary education in Uruguay and then returned to Florida to get her BA in International Relations at Lynn University. After a semester abroad in Germany and an internship in Washington DC, she returned to Punta del Este.

In 2016, she was one of the first staff members hired at International College, when it was still in its developmental stage. Starting with Model United Nations in college, she helped bring this club to the School and has been an MUN Director ever since.

Belen has been the School Secretary, Secretary to the Board and Personal Assistant to the Principal. In 2020, she has taken on the role of Executive Coordinator, liaising between the Administrative and the Academic departments at the School, supporting the Heads and the Board of Governors.

Travelling is one of Belen's greatest passions. She strives to meet new places and learn from their particular cultures. To her, each place has a story, and she is eager to discover them all.



Andres ENAndrés Taranto

Head of Physics Education

 

From a young age, Andres has been involved in physical activity, playing multiple sports in different clubs in his hometown, Florida, Uruguay. When he began his high school studies he discovered his interest in education and sports, finding his calling in Physical Education.

At the age of 18, he left for Maldonado in search of his future, where he began his studies as a Bachelor in Physical Education. At the age of 22, he graduated and began to practice his profession.

Since the opening of International College, Andrés has been the Physical Education and Sports Coordinator, as well as the Primary and Secondary Rugby coach. This year, with great enthusiasm, he assumed the position of Head of Physical Education. 

Andrés believes that the practice of sport is fundamental as an educational tool, respecting diversity, promoting integration and helping to consolidate sport as a source of wellbeing and healthy habits. It increases respect and perseverance and creates reflective and self-confident beings.

Passionate about Rugby, he is continuously training. Today, he is a World Rugby Educator, which enables him to give courses to students, players and coaches of this sport. He was also, for 11 years, a teacher at UDELAR (‘Universidad de la República’), teaching Rugby to students of the ‘Instituto Superior de Educación Física’. This year, he is dedicating 100% of his time to IC. 

In his free time he enjoys spending time with his family, made up of his wife María Emilia, two children, Isabella and Lorenzo, as well as his two dogs, ‘Simón’ and ‘Chula’. His priority is to enjoy every minute with them. When he is at home, he has a passion for being informed about current news and sports worldwide, watching different newscasts, and reading newspapers and digital programmes.

He loves drinking mate and  sharing great barbecues with his family and friends, usually being the grill master.
